Whole-home filtration in Edgewood

Better-tasting water from the shower to the laundry room

One tank at the point where water enters your house, filtering every faucet. Here's what it handles for Edgewood's groundwater, and where its limits are.

Filtration at a glance for Edgewood homes

Your source
Groundwater from the Estancia Basin, delivered by EPCOR Water New Mexico or pumped from your own private well
Filter media
Catalytic carbon
Reduces
Chlorine taste and odor, sediment and many VOCs
Does not remove
Hardness, arsenic or nitrate
Well add-ons
Specialty media for iron, manganese or sulfur, only after testing shows a need
Installed by
Our own team, in about half a day

The free on-site test is where we start: about 15 minutes, checking hardness, TDS, pH, chlorine, iron, manganese and sulfur, with a printed report you can keep. Those readings tell us whether plain carbon is enough or whether a well needs specialty media for iron, manganese or sulfur.

EPCOR customers can check the utility's annual water quality report for official numbers. If you're on a well, you're in charge of testing, and we can help set up lab work for bacteria, nitrate, arsenic and other items a field test can't measure.

Why people filter here

Four reasons Edgewood homeowners call about filtration

Disinfectant taste

If the free test picks up chlorine at your tap, catalytic carbon cuts the taste and smell in every room, not just the kitchen.

Grit from a well

Sediment can clog aerators and appliance screens. Filtering at the main line stops it before it spreads.

Sulfur odor

A rotten-egg smell from some wells may be treatable with specialty media, once the test confirms sulfur is the cause.

Scale on top of it all

Basin groundwater often carries hardness too, which carbon won't touch. Pairing it with a softener covers both.

How installation works on EPCOR service and on wells

On EPCOR water, the filter tank goes where the main line comes into the house, ahead of the water heater, so hot and cold both get filtered. On a private well, it sits after the pressure tank. Either way, it needs a spot that stays above freezing through an Edgewood winter; a garage or utility room usually works.

Carbon on its own is an option. But since the same groundwater that tastes of disinfectant or smells of sulfur can also leave scale, many households are better served by our Soft + Filtered Home package. It puts a 48,000-grain softener and catalytic carbon in one tank for $3,450. One tank means less floor space and a single metered valve, which suits a basin where groundwater use is closely managed. Read more about the softening side on our Edgewood softener page.

Edgewood filtration FAQ

Will carbon filtration take care of arsenic in my well?

No. Catalytic carbon doesn't remove arsenic or nitrate. If a lab test finds either, under-sink reverse osmosis is the usual approach for drinking water.

My EPCOR water tastes fine. Is filtration worth it?

Maybe not. If the test shows little to address and the taste doesn't bother you, a softener alone may be all you need. We'll tell you honestly.

How is this different from a pitcher filter?

A pitcher treats a few cups at a time. Whole-home filtration treats every tap, including showers and laundry. Our main whole-home filtration page goes deeper.
