Edgewood water softeners

A softener that earns its keep in a groundwater-limited basin

Edgewood's water comes up from the Estancia Basin, minerals and all. We install softeners that take out the hardness without wasting the water this area can't spare.

Why efficiency comes first in Edgewood

The State Engineer has designated the Edgewood area a critical management area for groundwater. So we don't sell timer-based softeners that regenerate on a schedule whether you used water or not. Every system we install has a digital metered valve that regenerates only after enough gallons have passed through.

Where Edgewood hardness comes from

Whether you're one of EPCOR's roughly 3,000 connections in Edgewood and Thunder Mountain or you pump from a private well, your water is groundwater from the Estancia Basin. Groundwater carries dissolved calcium and magnesium, the minerals behind hard water. How much depends on your source, and we won't guess at a figure for the whole town. Your test results will show where your water lands.

EPCOR customers can read the utility's annual water quality report for official results. Well owners don't get a report, which makes an on-site test even more useful as a starting point. If your property has more than one water supply, we can test each separately so the softener is sized for the water feeding the house.

What softening changes in a high-plains home

Ion exchange resin captures hardness minerals and can also handle small amounts of iron. Here's what Edgewood owners tend to notice afterward:

  • Less white buildup on faucets, showerheads and glass shower doors
  • Water heaters and tankless units protected from scale
  • Skin that feels less tight in dry, windy weather
  • Dishes that come out of the dishwasher without the spotty film

A softener doesn't remove arsenic, nitrate, chlorine or bacteria. For drinking-water concerns on a well, look at reverse osmosis in Edgewood alongside lab testing.

How an Edgewood install goes

Our own installers, no subcontractors, usually finished in about half a day.

  1. 1

    Free test, 15 minutes

We measure hardness, TDS, pH, chlorine, iron, manganese and sulfur at your tap and size the softener from your real readings and household size. Well owners can add lab testing through us.

  2. 2

    Pick the spot

If your home has an attached garage, that's often the easiest place. On a well, the softener goes after the pressure tank; on EPCOR service, near where the main line enters.

  3. 3

    Set the meter

We program the valve for your household and walk you through salt and settings before we leave.

Soft Water Essentials is a 48,000-grain metered softener for $2,495, installed with a lifetime warranty. Compare all packages or book a free water test.

Edgewood softener questions

Does a softener use a lot of water?

Every softener uses some water to regenerate. A metered valve keeps that tied to your real usage instead of a fixed schedule, which matters in a critical management area.

I'm on EPCOR. Do I still need a test?

EPCOR's report gives you system-wide results. Our test shows what's coming out of your own tap, which is what we size the softener from.

Can the softener go in a detached shop or well house?

Only if the space stays above freezing in winter. Otherwise we look for a heated garage or utility room after the pressure tank.

Where can I learn about Edgewood's other options?

Our Edgewood page covers local water sources, and the main water softeners page explains how ion exchange works.
